NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING ON SPECIAL ASSESSMENT ROLLS
FOR FIRE PROTECTION OPERATION EXPENDITURES

TO: The residents and property owners of the Township of Park, St. Joseph County, Michigan and all other interested persons.

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that on October 2, 2007, the Township Board of Park Township created a Township-wide Fire Protection Special Assessment District for the providing of funds for fire protection operation and capital expenditures in conjunction with an inter-local agreement with an adjoining township.

PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that in the Township Board’s Resolution of October 2, 2007 creating the Township-wide fire protection district it scheduled for the second Wednesday in October the annual public hearing on the amount to be assessed within the Township-wide special assessment district for the operation and capital expenditures of the fire department for the succeeding fiscal year of the Township to be preceded only by publication in the local newspaper.

PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that in accordance with the foregoing, and the laws and statutes of the State of Michigan, the Township Board will hold a public hearing at the Township Hall, 53640 Parkville Road, within the Township, on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 commencing at 7:00 pm to consider the proposed special assessment roll prepared by the Township Supervisor pursuant to directions of the Township Board to cover a portion of the operating expenditures and capital expenditures of the fire department for the fiscal year commencing April 1, 2022.

PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the amount proposed to be assessed against taxable land and premises within the Township is to be computed on the basis of .8308 mills ($.8308 per $1,000 of taxable value of such taxable property) for fire protection operation.

PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that copies of the proposed budgets for the aforesaid expenditures and the proposed special assessment rolls therefore may be inspected at the office of the Township Clerk, 53640 Parkville Road, within the Township on regular business days of such office and may also be inspected at the aforesaid public hearings.

PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that at the aforesaid public hearings, the Township Board will review said proposed special assessment rolls and any comments or objections thereto which may be made or filed with said Board at or prior to the time of said public hearings, and will consider any revisions, amendments or changes to said proposed special assessment rolls and the amounts to be levied against the benefited taxable properties.

Appearance and protest at this public hearing is required in order to appeal the amount of the proposed special assessments to the State Tax Tribunal. An owner or party in interest or his or her agent may appear in person at this hearing to protest the special assessment, or shall be permitted to file his or her appearance to protest by letter received at or before the public hearing. If such letter of protest is filed, the personal appearance of the person protesting will not then be required.

Any owner or person having an interest in the real property being assessed, who has appeared at the aforesaid hearing in the manner herein before indicated, may file a written appeal of his/her or its special assessment with the State Tax Tribunal within a maximum of 30 days after the confirmation of the aforesaid special assessment rolls by the Township Board.

Following the approval and confirmation of the proposed special assessment rolls, such special assessment will be collected in the same manner as property taxes are collected.

The Township will provide necessary and reasonable auxiliary aids and services, to individuals with disabilities at the hearing upon reasonable notice to the Park Township Clerk of the need for the same. Individuals with disabilities requiring auxiliary aids or services should contact the office of the Township Clerk by writing or calling the undersigned Clerk at least five days prior to the hearing.

All interested persons are invited to be present at the aforesaid time and place to submit comments concerning any of the foregoing, or to protest the proposed special assessment rolls.
